Baby Panda Madness
If you're like me (and you are), you're more than a little beguiled by Washington's fascination with the newest addition to the National Zoo's Panda House. I am speaking, of course, of giant panda cub Tai Shan (formerly known as Butterstick, a more evocative name than his official Chinese moniker, which means "Peaceful Mountain"). DC is truly collapsing in paroxysms of joy: five-month-old Tai Shan made his public debut yesterday; all 600 tickets to the viewing sold out, some of them fetching upwards of $210 on eBay. One female grad student even posted a seemingly-legit notice on Craigslist saying she'd perform sexual favors in exchange for a ticket. And some nutjob recently started penning The Butterstick Blog from Tai Shan's perspective (tagline: "I'm a panda, I've got things to say").
