Amateur Boxing in NYC

Tuesday, April 18, 2006

fridaynightfights.JPGWe've always been fans of checking out amateur boxing at NYC venues like Gleason's Gym ever since our high school gym teacher took us there on what was possibly the best field trip in the history of the New York public school system. But going there can be a bit on the difficult side if not actually participating (though, for that, there's always Gleason's amateur nights).

Friday Night Fights is a weekly amateur boxing event at the social church of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Hell's Kitchen. Tickets run $25, beers run $3, events take place weekly with Muay Thai and men and women's amateur boxing and the music runs towards early '90s vintage hip-hop like House of Pain and Dr. Dre.
