Omotesando Hills Opening Day

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

02142006.8.jpgAs promised, I braved the crowds and made the trek out to Harajuku on Saturday for the grand opening of the Tadao Ando-designed Omotesando Hills, the newest (and greatest) retail extravaganza to hit Tokyo. I put up a Flickr photoset of 60 photos that I think pretty much tell the tale of how the first day went -- viewing the set as a slideshow is nice, but note that I've also written info for each image as well. It amounted to "organized" chaos (this is Japan after all), long queues at every single restaurant and cafe (and even a few shops), and no lack of pricey items on display. As with the city's other main shopping complex, Roppongi Hills (and even Maru Biru), Omotesando Hills is definitely upscale, and it's not aimed at those with weak wallets.
