Canadian Style
Today marks the start of a 12-day event (until February 12) produced by me -- I try to pretend I can do more than just write -- at Cafe Pause in Tokyo. Behold "Canadian Style," a sort of follow-up to another event I helped produced for last November's edition of Swedish Style (part of Tokyo Design Week). It's a sort of celebration of "Canadiana," but hopefully in a non-lame manner, putting forth various installations (the main participants include designer Sonia Chow and photographer/DJ Marc Xavier LeBlanc). We stir it all up with video projections, compiled themed mixes of Canadian (most independent) artists, and an interactive installation, "Red + White/Read + Write," where you are invited to add your white chalk markings to the cafe's specially painted red wall (I still have the paint stains on my clothes to prove it). Since it's a cafe, we've also put together a special food menu that, as you may have guessed, is quite heavy on the maple goodies -- and we've got some Canadian beer for good measure! I've already posted a Flickr photoset taken earlier today as the cafe opened. The official launch party, open to one and all, happens February 4.
