Design Tour of Ginza

Even though Tokyo was named yet again most expensive place to live in, there are ways of enjoying the city without spending too much. For you design-lovers out there, here then is my quick and dirty don't-spend-a-dime (every gallery mentioned has no entrance fee) guide to design in Ginza.
- You start by coming out through the A3 exit of Ginza Station, and head to the Ginza Graphic Gallery. They host monthly design-related exhibitions, usually quite good.
- Not far is the Shiseido Gallery, which is hit and miss. But it's free, so there's no reason you shouldn't have a look at what is currently showing.
- You'll then go to Creation Gallery G8, another design-related gallery (careful: they're closed on weekend).
- Head back to Harumi Street (where you first exited the station), and go to the Apple Store. Free internet access on the top floor. (Another option is to visit the Sony Building.)
- Cross the street, and enter the Matsuya department store, where you'll find the Design Gallery on the 7th floor. Right next to it is the Design Collection shop, selling the best in designer goods -- they carry quite a few Good Design award winners.
- Next, you'll walk 5-10 minutes towards Yurakucho Station, to visit Muji's flagship store. The shop features every Muji item in existence, including the Muji+Infill house, as well as Meal Muji, a cafeteria-style eating area.
- Finally, as you exit, you'll notice the Tokyo International Forum (pictured above). Walk in, be wowed.
To find out what shows are currently on display at all the galleries mentioned, your first stop should be Tokyo Art Beat -- and I tend to mention the good stuff on my own site.
