Notes From The Road with Kyle Forester: The Doug Fir, Portland, OR
Kyle Forester, rock star and Gridskipper's man on the run, is currently on tour with Great Lakes, opening up for the Clientele. In between gigs and nights of hedonistic groupie orgies, Forester periodically sends Gridskipper these notes from the road. This time, he reports back from The Doug Fir, the venue attached to the uber-cool Jupiter Hotel, in Portland, OR.
Dear Gridskipper,
we have finally played a venue you would be geniunelly enthused about. The Doug Fir in Portland, OR! What a place!
First of all, I don't know who the committee is that built the utopia that is Portland, but it had several skateboarders on it. Even the little backstage pass artists are given at Doug Fir has a little silouette of a skateboarder on it! The venue is gorgeous. The backstage has a great couch, on which I took a nap.
The sound was unbelievably good. The Clientele said it was their best show of the tour. AFTER the show, we ate a really good meal at the restaurant part upstairs. I had the Cobb Salad, it was just what I needed, if you know what I mean. The architecture is great. Tons of logs. This place is great.
Love, Kyle
