Artazart: Paris's Designy Bookstore

Thursday, August 24, 2006

artazart.jpgThis design lover's paradise of a bookshop in Paris is an irreverent splash of orange on the verdant Canal St-Martin (just down the quai from the audacious hot pink, green, and yellow storefronts of Antoine et Lili). Founded to address the needs of graphic and web designers, artists, photographers, and students, the place is stocked to the brim with the captivating, the complicated, the inspiring, the shocking, and everything in between. Their well-curated collection includes a standard range of books and magazines on architecture and photography, and extends to works devoted to typefaces, color theory, and the art of japanese paper-folding as well as tomes with titles like The Big Book of Logos, Business Cards: the Art of Saying Hello, and Guerilla Advertising.

Until September 3rd, they're running a special Lomo exhibit, featuring photography taken with the cult Soviet camera. They're selling Lomo camera equipment and a new book on the technique called Holga: The World Through a Plastic Lens, as well as running Lomo workshops and competitions. Put on your white jazz shoes and best hipster t-shirt for the closing party, to be held at the nearby hipster watering hole Favela Chic on August 30th.
