Google Mappin' Hotels

072705.5.jpgCan nothing stop the infiltration of Google Maps into every sector of world culture? Thank God, no. As expected, travel sites are starting to implement Google Maps into commercial databases, and newcomers with smaller, newer data have the advantage. X Files Hotels (in beta, not sure of exact name) allows one to generate a plotted Google Map for a selection of hotels, then clinches the deal with a pushpin popup that supplies name, address, photo, description teaser, rating, and cost, with links to more info (current data covers North America and UK). Well done and likely to become standard. Another new, simiar beta site, ReserveMy.com, is not bad but less polished, even as it makes the Google Map integration its main selling point -- beware serious gaps between the "From x!" prices on the popups and what it actually allows at booking.
