L.A. Letter: Happiness = Art - Amanda Scheer-Demme
We've been cranky, we admit, because of our Zone visits of late. But Amanda Scheer-Demme appears to be on her last legs. We mean, when you get "served" (scroll to "A Crack in Amanda's Universe") by the F-List celebrity lovin', suck-up, faux-non-opinionated bloggers at "LA.Comfidential".com, a San Fernando Valley based blog (insert Big Brother 6's Jen Vasquez patented Eye-Roll here), you have pretty much "jumped the couch." And we have, without even really trying, succeeded in getting operatives into Amanda's new skank-den, Teddy's, even though we ourselves did not have low enough self-esteem to attempt it (and, admittedly, we were lacking the requisite vacant vagina), and their report is "Syphilis Sink, sans sink and tobacco." Yeah, she still's too cheap to open her own private non-hotel space to drape her velvet rope ("lifestyling production" is expensive, ya'll, please understand), and still enraging thousands of Hotel Roosevelt guests per week, but we're making progress (she's bunkered down in the Roosevelt basement now, in a former gay piano bar, we should add). More good vibrations after the jump.
Bottom line, we've moved on. We had the best LA day ever this past Saturday. Our new BFF blog, Cheapskatin' LA, directed us to the Los Feliz, Silverlake, and Echo Park Art Crawl 8 (admittedly, more of a "Drive, Find Parking, and Then Start Art Crawling" To-Do), and we had a blast. We saw so much cool shit being produced by the much-hallowed LA young artists of late, we could barely keep cash in our pockets. Click on the image below to expand it and see a map of all the outstanding galleries and installations we visited. Of course, we're faggots, so when we get happy, and back in our element, we buy, this day courtesy of Mr. Mac Maker, pictured above, owner of Maker Gallery (4008 Santa Monica Boulevard, 323-662-2524) and creator of our latest artistic acquisition. Gawd, this job is driving us to bankruptcy, we swear -- cash, Denton, now, or else. We also took in the "mini-Christo" installation, Maximillian's Schell, which is radically cooler than we ever thought it could be, both from the outside and the inside. The weather was great. We're drunk. We love art. We love LA. Peace out ya'll.
