L.A. Architecture Tours

092905.4.jpgLos Angeles is only just beginning to acknowledge it has a past, yet the city has always been a major magnet for great design, architecture, and art. Unfortunately, most of that great architecture has been off-limits to those of us without a black Amex -- until this weekend, that is. The MAK Center for Art and Architecture is hosting an architecture tour and reception this Sunday, October 2, allowing the public into recently renovated, privately-owned homes designed by Rudolph Schindler, Gregory Ain, and John Lautner. Not only are you experiencing great modernist architecture, but also a little bit of film history -- Lautner's Silvertop, pictured above, makes a cameo in that 1980s masterpiece, Less than Zero. The tour runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with cocktail reception following until 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $80 if you drive yourself, or that plus $30 to ride the shuttle bus. Sign up early via the MAK Center website, as space is limited.
