Contemporary Art in Hong Kong

20050304take02.jpgSamantha Culp plugs us into the contemporary art world in Hong Kong with this tip:

Best places to see contemporary art in HK these days:
Parasite in Sheung Wan (the most mature of the alternative spaces) and Cattle Depot in To Kwa Wan (literally a former cattle depot-turned gallery and studio complex. Houses 1a Space, Videotage, M63, and Artist's Commune, as well as offices for avant-garde theatre legends Zuni Icosahedron).

Habitus in Sheung Wan (design store and gallery in the top of the historic Western Market that hosts surprisingly good shows and parties they actually have wine at their openings!)

And for the really adventurousFo Tan. Fo Tan is a former industrial district whose empty factories are now being colonized by HK artists (most recent graduates of nearby Chinese University of Hong Kong's fine arts program). They occasionally coordinate open studio nights, so check out website for more detail or just email/call artists at random to see if you can swing by their studios.
