German Airfare Price Wars

Thursday, July 28, 2005

072805.7.JPGFare wars in Germany have led to some rather unconventional stoop-to-conquer discount ploys, including the sale of tickets through supermarkets and chain stores. After a lot of fierce downscale competition among discounters like Air Berlin (currently offering fares starting from £19 one way) and DBA (who distributed a half-million tickets for $60), big hund Lufthansa has been dragged into the fray -- they're selling 900,000 round-trip tickets for domestic routes in Germany for $119. With similar price wars broiling across Europe, it's getting quite easy to cobble together all kinds of extremely cheap and flexible itineraries for European touring.
