LA Events: May
Here are some ways to celebrate May in LA: buying a fresh set of skimpy clothes for what promises to be another long, hot summer; investing in a UV lamp (for the June gloom) and a window air conditioner (for those days when the gloom burns off and you think you're going to fry to a perfect golden-brown finish just sitting next to a window); getting a head start on a summer fling or six. The NY Times' Travel Trade
The NY Times' Travel Trade Show hits the Javits Center in NYC this weekend. More than 500 exhibitors will showcase the latest in destinations, resorts, hotels, etc. There'll be Taste of the World and Spa pavilions, as well as appearances by travel icons like Arthur and Pauline Frommer, Rick Steves and a variety of Travel Channel hosts, including "Bizarre Foods'" Andrew Zimmern. The event is open to the public (tickets are $20 in advance, $30 at the door).

Even though it sounds like one of the more unlikely spots to hold such an event, the now snow-less Union Square plays host to the city's first ever pro-snowboarding competition. Union Square Street Sessions will take place at 3pm on February 8, and will feature over 24 men and 8 female boarders competing for the $30,000 purse. [NYC Agenda]
