Ski Dubai

10242005.1.jpgI've decided to stop being surprised at the staggering hubris of Dubai's recreational mandarins. Nothing is beyond their powah. For what could be better than a ski resort in the desert? Ski Dubai is an artificial indoor ski mountain and alpine "village," and all 22,500 square meters will have excellent fake powder year round, no matter the scorching heat outside. The temperature inside the Sno-Dome (that's just my name for it) will remain a comfortable degree or two below freezing. The 85-meter high "mountain" sports five different slopes of varying difficulty -- featuring chair lifts, tow lifts, and (I shit you not) "flying carpets." Why don't we have access to flying carpet technology? America is facing a serious international flying carpet gap.
