As we noted earlier, polo season has arrived in Buenos Aires with the Tortugas Open (through October 14), the first part of the triple crown of polo (the Copa Diamante, above). Because no one really knows how to play polo, Tuesday's IHT wisely concentrated on the other half of the polo spectator's life--shopping. In doing so, it creates a little bit of a head-to-head between classic polo-style purveyor La Martina, a 20-year-veteran, and two-year-old boutique upstart La Dolfina, a clothing line owned by Adolfo Cambiaso, whose personal website humbly describes him as being "considered the best polo player in the world." So for at least the next month Buenos Aires will be the home to many a random polo tourist wearing knee-high polo boots and a team jersey. Because if you can't be a fabulously confident, sweaty and rich polo player, at least you can dress like one.
