I Will Always Bleibtreu: Berlin Boutique Hotel

Monday, August 14, 2006

bleibtreu.jpgBerlin's Bleibtreu Hotel hardly looks hotelish at all. No real lobby, little in the way of reception desk, the hotel's ground floor is given over to a bar, a cafe, a florist and a restaurant. But above these lurks a boutique hotel, I swear. For 122 Euro a night, you get one of 60 nicely laid out rooms in the eco-friendly hotel, access to the "wellness center" (Lymph node drainage available!) and a real "New York Deli." Don't poke fun. The bagels aren't half bad. Tucked into a quiet street right of the shop-crazy Kurfurstendamm, the hotel is smartly appointed by Herbert Jakob Weinand, whose sleek yet folksy furniture gives the place a placid feel helped along by a beautifully tiled courtyard. But just because it's eco-friendly doesn't make it anti-business, all the rooms meet the modcon needs of a business man.
