Katz's Texas Deli

Friday, April 28, 2006

04282006.4.jpgEr, right. Katz's Deli (Austin, TX) has actually been around since 1979. Founder and (still?) owner of the Austin branch (he once sued his son over a Houston location) Marc Katz is indeed from the Big Apple, and by one account he recreated in Austin a "Hebro-Disney version of New York City" in Jewish deli terms. Regardless of provenance or authenticity, the place still does a booming business, especially late at night. And despite Katz's New York nativity, there's no relation to the much older and more storied NYC Katz's Deli. Any Hebro-Disney resemblance is purely coincidental.
