Haven't EU members suffered enough annoyance at the hands of Americans? In addition to clogging the sidewalks of every city in our finest Juicy Couture warm-ups, some of us are even venturing past the urban perimeter to peek into your homes. A recent press trip to Amsterdam plunked 50 American architecture and design journalists (including this writer) on the tony side streets of Java and Borneo in the Eastern Docklands. At 9 AM. On a Saturday. The architecture didn't disappoint -- nor did the views of the millionaire homeowners inside their lucite and glass palaces. There to temper the feelings of real-estate envy were realizations of, "we're just like them," because even rich Europeans check email in their underwear.
