Wheels Up: Welcome to the New Gridskipper
Welcome to Gridskipper, the worldwide travel blog. For those familiar with the previous incarnations of the site, a brief word about Gridskipper's direction. For the past several summers, the Curbed Network has run a blog called The Beach, focused on all manner of doings in The Hamptons on Long Island, NY. When the chance came for Curbed to acquire Gridskipper from Gawker Media—a site we've enjoyed a long history with—the time seemed right to take the best of The Beach and combine it with the best of Gridskipper. So here we are.
Formerly focused on the urban travel experiences, the new Gridskipper knows travel as an exercise in escape and leisure. We spend our weekdays toiling away in office buildings, at the mercy of HVACs, under artificial light and, generally, boxed in. So you'll excuse us, please, if we don't mind a weekend at the beach with two too many glasses of rosé; or a last minute escape to Jackson Hole, where they're reporting 14" of fresh powder; or 36 hours in Paris, because—well, just because. And, don't be surprised if we skip out to Art Basel or Cannes. If there's an extra seat on the jet, why the hell not?
More specifically this means that during the summer months, The Beach will be situated in the Hamptons, chronicling the stories, the people, and the places that make summer on the East End one of the greatest shows on earth. Come fall, we'll head to Miami, perhaps, then on to Aspen and the Alps. Throughout, as has been Gridskipper's wont, expect us, too, to check in on the great citites and places of the world with regularity: the best new restaurants in Paris, six new sneaker stores in Tokyo, or the best sex shops of Los Angeles.
No need to buckle up, as it's going to be smooth sailing from here on out. Take any seat. We're wheels up.
